These days you are coming across the word- valentine, all day and night, whether it be listening to your favorite radio station or going through the pages of the latest newspaper, love seems to be in the air these days. Of course and why not- as this special day is meant to be celebrated with your special someone and express your love for that person. It is the celebration of a day when people take out time from their busy schedules and make an attempt to show their love to the love in their life.
Valentine’s Day is very famously also known as the month or the season of cards, roses, teddy bears and chocolates. But what makes this day weird is the unfamiliarity of most of us which is attached to this very day. Today, it is made just another justification to celebrate, to exchange gifts and for the card as well as chocolate companies to make some quick money through such shortcuts.
A lot of youngsters feel the only aim of this day is to have a crush on that cute chap of their batch or attempt to all the proposes that they would be offered. Well, in the mid of all these things going on, the very essence of this beautiful day seems to be lost.
Valentine’s Day has been connected to a mixture of stories. Legend associate the day to a Roman priest, named Valentine. It is also said that the Emperor Claudius II forbade young men to marry as he used to feel that unwed men made stronger soldiers. Valentine never obeyed the orders of the emperor and formalized the marriage of the young couples. He was detained because of this reason and the emperor condemned St. Valentine to death. It is believed that St Valentine underwent martyrdom on 14 February 270 AD and, from that instance, Valentine’s Day has been celebrated on 14 February.
Today, the denotation of the day might be restricted to expressing love to your so-called boyfriends or girlfriends but the day is actually supposed for you to articulate your feeling as well as warmth to all those for whom you care from the bottom of your heart, anyone can become your valentine - a friend, a soul mate, it could be your parents, your siblings or just about anyone who holds an important place in your life. It is the day especially for your sweethearts - be it your lover, fiancée, wife, husband, brother, sister or anyone with whom you share a very unique bond.
